The number of cases of Covid-19 reported in France has been on the rise over the last week, with more than 1,000 new cases over the last 24 hours on Thursday 23 July; an improvement of 26% within a week for the Ministry of Health. Around the same time, resuscitation facilities no longer detect a steady drop in Coronavirus patients observed since mid-April.

The spread of the virus is also on the rise for the third consecutive week. For the Ministry of Health, the regular estimates are a “confirmation” of the “trend detected during the past two weeks.” In France, with the exception of French Guiana, the number of cases detected corresponds to an increase of +66 per cent over three weeks, according to the Ministry of Health. Ten new cases of epidemics were reported since yesterday, for a total of 209 active people on the territory.

“The rise in reported positive cases has also been higher over the last two weeks than the increase in the number of patients tested,” states Public Health France. Around 3.589 new cases were reported last week in metropolitan France, an increase of 27% relative to the previous week, following weekly rises of 21% and 13%, reports the health department.

Start of the decline in hospital admissions for Covid 19.

If the number of patients hospitalized due to Covid-19 infection tends to decrease on a regular basis, with 409 fewer people hospitalized over the last 24 hours, this is potentially a recovery, reports Santé Publique France. “After a downward decline in the previous week, the number of new hospitalizations for Covid-19 stabilized at week 29,” the week of July 13 to 19.

The number of patients infected by Covid-19 remains constant in the intensive care unit, with 436 patients on Thursday, 23 July. Such intensive care admissions have “decreased for the second straight week,” reports Public Health France, with the exception of French Guiana.

Generally, the number of deaths due to the disease has been steady for many weeks, with 10 new deaths recorded in the hospital this Thursday. “Mortality has now returned to the normal fluctuation rates,” according to French Public Health.

A “slackening” that worries the authorities

The Ministry of Health is concerned about recent habits favoring the circulation of the virus for several weeks. Health officials note a slackening in the use of barrier motions, which results in a rise in the number of risk encounters per patient with Covid-19.

“The progression of the transmission of the virus is confirmed, but it remains moderate and therefore manageable by the strict application of the measures by each of us and by the intensification of the ‘test-tracer-isolate’ strategy,” concludes the weekly bulletin, Santé Publique France.
